Henan: Cattle manure is the “weapon” for mushroom cultivation

Recently, cattle manure is regarded as the “weapon” for mushroom cultivation in Wugang, Henan. According to the Button mushroom grower Mr. Wang, mushrooms cultivated by cattle manure is much more delicious and fleshy than general mushrooms. They are organic and favored in mushroom markets. 
This year, a mushroom base of 200 square meters used over 1500 kilograms dried cattle manures and 1500 kilograms straw. There were over 2000 kilogram fresh Button mushroom harvested. It is said by Mr. Wang that this base can be predicted to harvest 3000 kilograms Button mushrooms. He added that there are many mushroom growers at present that can effectively use animal manures to product mushrooms. This method not only improves the quality and production of mushrooms, but reduces the production costs, increases farmers’ income and benefits to the environment.
