Henan: Skillful cultivation for White mushroom uses cattle dung to make money

It’s understood that 67 years old beef cattle farmer Zhangguozhi in Pingyu county of Henan was facing a “headache”: the smelly cattle dung. All the neighbors complained that especially in summer. However, in July last year, the provincial Academy of Agricultural Sciences' experts had brought the good news to Zhangguozhi: cattle dung is a good raw material to plant white mushroom. Under the guidance of experts, Zhangguozhi built two 300-square-meter greenhouses to grow mushrooms with cattle dung. Last December, as the White mushrooms enter into the harvest time, the cattle dung cultivated White mushrooms which looked white and fleshy were welcomed by the consumers. Based on the price of 10 CNY/kg, Zhangguozhi earned more than 4000 CNY. This year, he plans to improve the two greenhouses in addition to the expansion of 1000 square meters of shed, striving for more benefits.
