Suitable temperature for germination of mushroom spores and the growth of mycelia is at a range of 20-30 degrees Celsius, however, temperature for differentiation of sporocarps differs from variety to variety and three types are generally divided as follows:
1. Low-temperature Type: The maximum temperature for differentiation of sporocarps is at 24 degrees Celsius and the optimal temperature is below 20 degrees Celsius.
2. Medium-temperature Type: The maximum temperature for differentiation of sporocarps is at 28 degrees Celsius and the optimal temperature is at a range of 20-24 degrees Celsius.
3. High-temperature Type: The minimal temperature for differentiation of sporocarps is at 30 degrees Celsius and the optimal temperature is at above 24 degrees Celsius.
The vast majority of moisture required during the growth of organic mushroom comes from substrate. In general, suitable water content of substrate is at 65%. During the growth phase of sporocarps, moisture of substrate is lessened due to the evaporation and picking, and hence growers have to frequently spray water in mushroom house to retain certain relative air humidity and prevent excess moisture evaporation of substrate as well.
During the growth phase of sporocarps, high relative air humidity is also required, and the suitable range is 80%-95%. In the case of low humidity, differentiation and growth of sporocarps would be affected, in serious condition, sporocarps refuse to differentiate, or differentiated small mushrooms tend to die. Excess relative air humidity also results in tardy growth of mushroom bodies and bacterial breeding.
Generally, appropriate PH Value for growth of mycelia is at 3-8 and the preferred range reaches 5.0-5.5.
Oxygen and carbon dioxide are another two factors which affect the growth of mycelia on mushroom growing, excess carbon dioxide does adverse influence to the growth of mushroom, and hence mushroom house should be frequently ventilated. Good ventilation helps supplement fresh air into mushroom house and exhaust carbon dioxide and other metabolic waste gas. Most importantly, regular ventilation facilitates regulating relative air humidity and eliminating the breeding of bacteria.
