Straw Mushroom Cultivation: how to get rid of Black Mould?

The scientific name of Black Mould refers to “Alternaria spp” It is one of the common sundry fungi that can be found during the production and cultivation period of Straw mushroom, Oyster mushroom, Shiitake and other mushrooms. It owns strong adaptation ability, wide distribution speed and often sits in organic substances.
Symptom: Black or deep green fluffy substrates. Finally, it will result in rotten and black compost and inhibit the growth of spawns. The difference between Black Mould and Aspergillus niger lies in that Black Mould presents the shape of villus or powder and the colony of Aspergillus niger is granular, loose and coarse.
Characteristics: There are many varieties of Black Mould, some of them own certain morbidity and exist in soil, air and all kinds of organic substances which can be taken as compost. It also holds wide distribution speed, after getting matured, conidium floats in the air. Halfway sterilization of compost, too much water content and substandard operation process fit for the growth of Black Mould.
Control method:
1. Fungi bed should be set away from animal manure which contains organic substances.
2. Control the temperature and humidity of mushroom house, remain a moderate environmental health and destroy the living environment of Black Mould.
3. Choose materials which are fresh, dried and free from mould as compost, control the proportion of bran and rice bran in 10% when mixing material.
4. When mixing material, choose 25% or 50% of Carbendazim which account for 0.2% weight of dried material, or apply 0.2% of Thiophanate methyl.
